SPORT in the gers

CYCLING

The world famous Tour de France passes through the local area and the Pyrenees mountains. Most years there will be numerous stages accessible from the Chateau with Auch, Toulouse and Pau all being regular destinations to watch the race. The Col de Tormalet is less than 2 hours away.

 

GOLF

Golf enthusiasts are well catered for, with two scenic local courses - Auch and Fleurance - both less than 30 minutes from the Château. For a more challenging round, the historic Pau Golf Club, the oldest in mainland Europe, is around 1 hour 35 minutes away, while Golf Club Palmola, a championship-length course, lies just 1 hour 30 minutes from the estate.

 

SKIING

Saint-Jean-Poutge is about a 1.5 to 2-hour drive from the closest French Pyrenean ski resorts, such as those in the Ariège region, including Ax-3-Domaines (also used as the stage finish for the Tour de France). Other nearby ski areas like Saint-Lary Soulan are also approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes away by car.

 

RUGBY

Rugby fans will find plenty to enjoy nearby. The closest clubs to Château de Pléhaut are Rugby Club Auch and Union Sportive L’Isle-Jourdain, both playing in France’s regional leagues. For top-tier action, Stade Toulousain - one of Europe’s most celebrated rugby teams - competes in the French Top 14, with major matches held at the impressive Stadium de Toulouse.

 

FOOTBALL

For football fans, FC Auch Gers is is the primary professional football club in the Gers department, with the main town being Auch, which is only 20 mins drive from the Château.

 

FISHING

For those who enjoy fishing, there are several peaceful spots nearby. The Barrage de Saint-Jean, a local reservoir listed on nautical charts, offers calm waters and scenic surroundings. The Lacs de Gauge in Condom feature two small, family-friendly lakes, while the River Ariège to the south is renowned for trout fishing in a beautifully preserved natural setting - perfect for a tranquil day outdoors.
